Gang of car thieves busted in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad, July 14 (IANS) Police have busted a high-tech auto lifters' gang and arrested two persons in this connection in Ghaziabad of Uttar Pradesh, said an official on Saturday. Nine luxury cars were also recovered from them.

Ghaziabad SSP Vaibhav Krishna said during a checking drive on Friday, the police stopped two persons -- Nafees and Imran, who were moving in a luxury car.

As the police asked them about their car, they could not provide satisfactory answers. On suspicion, they were taken to Loni Police Station of the city.

During interrogation, they revealed that they were members of a high-tech auto lifters' gang which steals luxury cars by disabling their GPS and switching off the sensors.

The stolen cars were sold in Nepal, they said. A Honda City car is sold for Rs 22 lakh or more in the neighbouring country, according to them.

The police believe that they have sold over hundred cars in Nepal to date.

During the screening of their crime record, Nafees was found involved in nine cases of theft in different police station areas of Delhi. Imran has also been involved in seven criminal cases.

The police also recovered a drilling machine, a tool to crack the lock and some duplicate keys, among others, from them.
