Four missing after boat capsizes in Andhra

Vijayawada, July 14 (IANS) Four persons went missing while about 20 others were rescued after a boat capsized in Godavari River in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, eye-witnesses said.

The incident occurred near Pasuvullanka in I. Polavaram mandal (block) in East Godavari district.

The boat carrying over 20 people, mostly students, capsized after hitting a pillar of an under construction bridge.

Local people, including fishermen, rescued about 20 while the search was on for the missing.

The boat was on its way from Talarivari Palem to Pasuvullanka. There is no clarity on exact number of people who were on the boat as police and civil officials were still trying to reach the spot.

Some Telugu television channels showed pictures of few rescued students lying on ground and the boat near the pillar.
