Sochi, July 6 (IANS) Russia head coach Stanislav Cherchesov on Friday confirmed his footballers should not let the euphoria of defeating Spain in the Round-of-16 clash at the 2018 FIFA World Cup go to their heads.
Cherchesov spoke at a press conference on the eve of the quarter-finals duel against Croatia, days after eliminating Spain in a penalty shootout, reported Efe.
"Spain was a story with a happy ending for our country. But now we have to look forward. There are things we must forget. We cannot be caught up in the euphoria, since the tournament goes on," Cherchesov stressed.
The 54 year-old Russian coach said every match was a fight for survival in which there are no second chances, as such his team must go for the win from the first minute onward.
"I hope the most important matches are to come. We know the Croatian team and its players who play in great clubs and great leagues," the coach said giving praise to the Russians' next opponent.
