Evening showers brings relief from sultry heat in NCR

New Delhi, July 5 (IANS) Sudden heavy rains accompanied by gusty winds lashed the National Capital Region (NCR) on Thursday evening bringing some relief from sultry heat, with Met Department officials holding out chances of more showers in the area later.

According to IMD, the temperature after the hour-long showers dropped to 26.6 degrees Celcius. Rainfall recorded in Delhi was 34.2 mm while the humidity was 90 per cent. The maximum temperature settled at 37 degrees Celsius.

"There are chances of more rainfall in the NCR belt by late evening," an IMD official added.

According to the private weather forecasting agency Skymet, the axis of monsoon trough was running in close vicinity of Delhi, resulting in increased humidity levels which eventually led to intense rain and thundershower over Delhi and adjoining regions.

The national capital had earlier seen a partly cloudy sky with the minimum temperature recorded at 28.6 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season's average.

Wednesday's maximum temperature settled at 37 degrees, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 25 degrees Celsius, season's average.
