Finland organisations to help train Delhi teachers: Ambassador

Finland organisations to help train Delhi teachers: AmbassadorNew Delhi, June 28 (IANS) Finland's organisations and institutes working in the field of education will work closely with the Delhi government to train teachers here, Finland's Ambassador to India Nina Vaskunlahti said.

Finnish institutes will offer tailor-made training to Indian teachers and also organise workshops in Delhi for those who cannot visit the European country, Vaskunlahti told IANS in an interview.

As part of the efforts to promote educational ties, 30 school heads and 30 teacher trainers and educators from Delhi visited Finland in March to gain in-depth understanding of the Finnish education model vis-a-vis school policies, teacher training and teaching practices.

"Their visit to Finland is a very good beginning. Many Finnish companies are offering tailor-made courses for Indian teachers, administrators and education experts. There is always a possibility that they can go to Finland to learn more," the Ambassador said after meeting with these school heads and others here on Wednesday.

The diplomat said that no system was perfect and a close look was necessary to bring about improvements.

"In Finnish education system, emphasis is put on use of computers and typing and not writing, due to which the art of writing is slowly fading away. I firmly believe that you need to learn the alphabets by writing," she said.

Vaskunlahti came to India in September 2016 around the time when Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had visited Finland.
