The police said the accused persons have been identified as Shajid Ali Ansari, 26, and his brothers Ishtihaq Ali, 28, and Hasmat Ali, 29. They are natives of Bihar and stayed in south Delhi's Jamia Nagar and Sarita Vihar areas.
"All the accused brothers were arrested on Monday following a raid on their hideout at Ishtihaq's residence in Jamia Nagar where they had been staying since the murder," Deputy Commissioner of Police Chinmoy Biswal said.
"During interrogation, Shajid disclosed that had been unemployed for the last couple of years and his brothers helped him financially. Due to financial crises, he often indulged in regular fights with his wife Joha.
"In a fit of rage, on June 20 night, he strangled Joha to death. Later, with the help of his brothers, he chopped her body into pieces, packed into cartons and put them into bag and dumped at a vacant plot," Biswal said.
The police said the killing came to light on June 21 when some locals informed the police about a decomposed body of a woman placed in a bag at a plot in Sarita Vihar area.
"During investigation, police team found a company tag on one of the cartons. It had been sent by one mover and packer company from Gurugram. On checking the company data, the consignment was found to have been booked by one Javed Akhtar for delivery at his Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh house," Biswal said.
"Police located Javed Akhtar in Aligarh and questioned him. He confirmed that he had booked the consignment. The flat was later given on rent to Shajid through a property dealer in March this year," the officer added.
"During checking the flat, it was found locked from outside and Shajid was found missing," he added.
