US Mideast plans doomed to fail: Palestine

Ramallah, June 23 (IANS) Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeinah said on Saturday that the US Middle East plans that ignore their rights and the establishment of the Palestinian state will lead to a "dead end".

Rudeinah's remarks come as US President Donald Trump's son-in-law and senior advisor Jared Kushner and special representative for international negotiations Jason Greenblatt are touring the Middle East to meet Arab and Israeli officials.

The US "should abandon the illusion of creating false facts and falsifying history to make the deal possible", Rudeinah was cited as saying by Xinhua news agency.

"A solution to the conflict is only possible with the Palestinian people and their national leadership, supported by their Arab brethren as a whole and their governments," he added.

Meanwhile, Saeb Erekat, secretary general of the Palestine Liberation Organization, told radio station Voice of Palestine that the US was now trying to annul the role of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, after recognizing occupied Jerusalem as Israel's capital in December and moving its embassy to the holy city in May.

On Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the US envoys during their meeting that he was ready to meet Gaza's needs through the Palestinian Authority's tax and customs revenues Israel collects on its behalf.

"The goal behind this is to sustain the coup and keep Gaza separated from the West Bank, while bringing down the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank," said Erekat.

The Palestinian Authority has repeatedly said the US "deal of the century" for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict falls way short of their expectations for a lasting and just peace settlement.
