Krasnodar (Russia), June 23 (IANS) Spain and Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul ?iguez said on Saturday it was great news that Atletico forward Antoine Griezmann had extended his contract with the Rojiblancos, adding that he hopes Slovenian goalkeeper Jan Oblak will follow suit.
Griezmann, who is representing France in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, had been linked with a move to Barcelona but eventually decided to extend his contract until 2023, reports Efe.
"Griezmann had a contract_ including a 100 million (euro) buyout clause, he signed one for 200 (million euros) and the club has done a good job at this respect. Now we just need to renew Oblak's contract," ?iguez said in Krasnodar, Russia, where he is on international duty for Spain.
?iguez added that he considers the extension of Griezmann's contract is "super positive" news for Atletico's fans and players.
"We wanted him to decide, and he decided to stay at Atletico Madrid and I think it is the right decision," he continued.
"I do not care if Barcelona comes for a player like Griezmann, and we kept him, but that the players who stay with us do it willingly. Everybody is happy that he stayed," he added.
