US dollar declines on downbeat data

New York, June 22 (IANS) The US dollar dropped as investors were digesting the latest data from the country.

In late New York trading on Thursday, the euro was up to $1.1622 from $1.1589 in the previous session, and the British pound increased to $1.3253 from $1.3186 in the previous session, Xinhua news agency reported.

The Australian dollar rose to $0.7389 from $0.7371.

The Philadelphia Federal Reserve's manufacturing index decreased about 15 points to a reading of 19.9 in June from 34.4 in May, lower than the market consensus of 28, according to its latest report.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, fell 0.39 per cent at 94.757 in late trading.

The US dollar bought 109.86 Japanese yen, lower than 110.39 Japanese yen of the previous session. The US dollar fell to 0.9908 Swiss franc from 0.9957 Swiss franc, and it decreased to 1.3305 Canadian dollars from 1.3312 Canadian dollars.
