Rashford praises England captain Kane

Moscow, June 19 (IANS) England striker Marcos Rashford praised captain Harry Kane when he spoke to the press on Tuesday in the wake of England's 2-1 win against Tunisia on Monday night.

Rashford played as a second half substitute, replacing Raheem Sterling in the win, but Kane was the hero of the night with the two goals to give his side a morale boosting win in their opening match of World Cup Group G in Russia, reported Xinhua news agency.

The England captain slotted home from a rebound in the 11th minute and then headed the winning goal in injury time, just when it looked it would end in a draw.

"He's been a brilliant leader for us leading up to the tournament, as well as now we have started the tournament. He always leads by example and there's no better what to do it than by scoring goals," said Rashford.

Although it was Kane's first appearance in the World Cup finals, 20-year-old Rashford believes there is no limit to what Kane, who is still only 24 himself, can achieve.

"He's a top forward. His career is only going to go up and up. He's very young and at this stage of his career, he's going to keep improving and getting better," he said.

Monday is only the fifth time that England have kicked off a World Cup finals campaign with a win and Rashford looked back on the victory which means that if England can beat Panama in Kaliningrad on Sunday, they will probably book their place in the last 16.

"It's a platform for us to build on, although we have to improve the performances which will ultimately get the points," said the striker, who considered the victory to be "a big step," towards qualification.

"The most important thing was always the points, but it was good that especially in the first half, we got the performance we were looking for," concluded Rashford.
