"A total of 1,120 villages of Haryana have achieved star ranking under '7-Star Gram Panchayat Rainbow Scheme' launched in January this year by Chief Minister Manohar Lal," state Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister O.P. Dhankar said at a state-level Panchayat Performance Assessment Committee (SPPAC) meeting held here.
"The star rating to the village panchayats under the scheme is given on the basis of seven parameters such as sex ratio, good education, hygiene or serenity, environment preservation, good governance and social participation," he said.
Dhankar said that the winning villages would be awarded at the '7-Star Award Ceremony (Star Vitran Samaaroh)' to be held at APanchkula, Gurugram and Rohtak in July.
Under the scheme the villages would be rewarded Rs 1 lakh for achieving each star. The villages having equal or more girl population would be given an additional Rs 50,000 as bonus with their reward money.
Villages which adopted Swachhta Mission would be given additional Rs 50,000 as reward.
The villages winning six stars would be entitled to get the additional developmental works worth Rs 20 lakh, villages with 5 stars rating would be entitled to get the additional developmental works worth Rs 15 lakh and villages with 4 stars would be entitled to get additional developmental works worth Rs 20 lakh done from the departments, he said.
Three villages have achieved the six-star rating while another three villages have bagged 5-star rating. Nine villages achieved the 4-star rating.
Dhankar said that Ambala district topped the star ranking with 407 stars followed by Gurugram with 199 stars and Karnal with 75 stars.
"The star rating would motivate the villages with a sense of competition and proud," he added.
