New Delhi, June 7 (IANS) Expanding its "Y" series, Chinese handset maker Xiaomi on Thursday launched Redmi Y2 smartphone in India for Rs 9,999 for 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage version while the 4GB + 64GB onboard storage variant is priced at Rs 12,999.
The smartphone player also announced "MIUI 10" -- the latest update to its operating software which is built for a more immersive full screen experience.
"In a short span of six months, Redmi Y1 became the bestselling selfie phone in the country. It was found that 57 per cent of the user base of the series was under the age of 24, the highest any Xiaomi device has witnessed which is a proof point of the success of our Y series," Manu Jain, Vice President, Xiaomi, and Managing Director, Xiaomi India, said in a statement.
Redmi Y2 sports an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered 16MP front camera which also has pixel binning technique and Xiaomi's own AI beautify feature.
The device has a 5.99-inch 18:9 "Full Screen" display and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chip.
Redmi Y2 sports a 12MP+5MP AI dual rear camera wherein the 12MP primary sensor has 1.25um large pixels which results in brighter images, the company claimed.
The 5MP secondary sensor is dedicated for acquiring depth information.
Available in gold, rose gold and dark grey colours, the device features face unlock and a fingerprint scanner.
