3 held after shootout in Ghaziabad, abducted HCL engineer rescued

Ghaziabad, June 1 (IANS) An HCL engineer kidnapped for ransom nearly 10 days ago was rescued after his three abductors were arrested following a shootout with a joint team of Ghaziabad Police and Noida STF early on Friday, during which two constables and two kidnappers were injured.

Those arrested are Mahesh Mishra of Surat in Gujarat but presently living in Indirapuram area of Ghaziabad, Sharad Sharma of Ayodhya and Rinku of Hapur.

Four vehicles, a countrymade pistol, a .32 mm pistol along with cartridges, ATM cards and Rs 40,000 were seized from the criminals.

Senior Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Krishna told the media that Software Engineer Rajeev Kumar was abducted on May 23 night from a bus stand in Raj Nagar Extension.

The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs 15 lakh for his release.

The SSP said that police cornered the criminals near Brave Heights in Raj Nagar Extension early on Friday, but they fired at the police team and injured Constables Manish of Noida Special Task Force and Arun of Sihani Gate police station.

In the ensuing gunfight, two abductors Mahesh and Sharad sustained bullet injuries. After the three criminals were arrested, on their disclosure, police raided their hideout in Prahladgarhi village and rescued the abductee.

The injured policemen and criminals were admitted in Kailash hospital, where they were in stable condition.
