Heat wave conditions engulf Haryana, Punjab

Chandigarh, May 21 (IANS) Most parts of Haryana and Punjab reeled under heatwave conditions on Monday with temperatures soaring past the 41 degrees Celsius mark at most places.

The sweltering heat forced people to remain indoors at most places, particularly between noon and 4 p.m.

Hisar town in Haryana sizzled at 43.4 degrees while Narnaul town hit a high of 43.2 degrees.

Bhiwani (42 degrees), Karnal (42) and Ambala (41.6) also experienced the heat wave.

Chandigarh recorded a high of 41.7 degrees.

The maximum temperatures were two to five degrees above average, Met department officials said here.

Amritsar city in Punjab recorded a high of 41.5 degrees.

Ludhiana and Patiala cities recorded highs of 40.8 and 42 degrees respectively.

Met department officials said heat wave conditions would prevail over the region in the coming days and the weather would remain dry.
