Cabinet approves Blue Line extension to Noida Sector 62

New Delhi, May 16 (IANS) The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved extension of Delhi Metro's Blue Line service from Noida City Centre to Noida Sector 62.

A Cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the 6.675km corridor being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1,967 crore.

Out of the total budget, the government's liability would be Rs 340.60 crore on account of Grant and Subordinate Debt, an official statement said.

"About 81 per cent progress of civil work and 55 per cent of overall financial progress of the project has been achieved," it said.

Speaking to IANS, a Metro official said the corridor would open for public by the end of the year. The original deadline for the completion of the project was September 2018.

"The extension of Delhi Metro corridor from Noida City Centre to Noida Sector 62 is the extension to Dwarka-Noida City Centre line of Delhi Metro system which will result in people being assured about their mobility and thus more people will like to move to this satellite town of Delhi, thus decongesting Delhi," the government statement said.
