Governor axes name of Vijayan aide for Information Commissioner’s post

Thiruvananthapuram, May 10 (IANS) In a embarrassment for Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Governor P. Sathasivam on Thursday rejected the name of his close aide A.A. Rasheed from the list of five Information Commissioners sent to him by the government for approval.

Receiving a complaint against Rasheed, the Governor sought a police report and finding it went against Rasheed, struck out his name.

A senior Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader in the state capital, Rasheed is perceived as being close to Vijayan.

Sathasivam however cleared the remaining four names, which include that of the press secretary of former Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan.

The posts of five state information commissioners were vacant for a long time as there were too many aspirants and the CPI-M took its time to select the five.
