Bengaluru, May 3 (IANS) The Karnataka government on Thursday transferred Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner N. Manjunatha Prasad on the Election Commission's direction, said an official statement.
"State Agriculture Secretary M. Maheshwar Rao is transferred with immediate effect as Commissioner of the BBMP on the direction of the EC," it said.
The order from the state Personnel Department, however, did not mention Prasad's new posting.
According to the statement, Rao was directed to take over his new post immediately "without availing joining time" and furnishing compliance to the state government and office of the Chief Electoral Officer.
Prasad's continuation as commissioner of the city civic corporation became untenable after the opposition BJP and Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) had complained against him for allegedly helping the ruling Congress and its candidates in electioneering.
Of the 224 assembly segments across the state, Bengaluru has the largest number of them at 28.
The single-phase election will be held across the state on May 12 and vote count is on May 15.
