Thunderstorm hit Punjab, Haryana, maximum temperatures dip

Chandigarh, May 2 (IANS) A high-velocity thunderstorm hit parts of Punjab and Haryana on Wednesday afternoon, leaving a trail of destruction and resulting in maximum temperatures dipping at most places.

Reports reaching here said that two construction workers were killed after a wall collapsed in Patiala city, around 65 km from here, on Wednesday.

The workers were rushed to a government hospital where doctors declared them dead.

There were reports of people being injured at some places and vehicles and structures being damaged following the thunderstorm.

Chandigarh and its surrounding areas were lashed by rain following the thunderstorm.

Several other places experienced rains.

The maximum temperatures, which had hit the 40-plus mark at most places on Monday, were down by two to four degrees from average.

Chandigarh saw a high of 34.4 degrees Celsius.

In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a maximum temperature of 34.1 degrees while Patiala and Ludhiana recorded highs of 34.6 and 34.7 degrees.

In Haryana, Hisar and Narnaul recorded highs of 38.1 and 36.5 degrees while Ambala was a shade cooler at 35.4 degrees.
