Rain brings respite in Delhi from hot weather

New Delhi, May 2 (IANS) Delhi residents received a respite from the heat on Wednesday as rain and thunder showers were experienced in different parts of the city bringing an immediate drop in temperature by as many as 14 degrees Celsius during the late evening.

While the temperature dropped to 20 degrees Celsius immediately after the showers at around 8.30 p.m,, however the maximum temperature for the day was recorded at 38.3 degrees Celsius, the season's average. It was around 33-34 degrees just before the rain.

 

The weather office said the respite is likely to continue with more showers expected on Thursday.

"There will be generally cloudy sky with drizzle likely to occur. The maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 36 and 26 degrees Celsius respectively," said an official of the India Meteorological Department.

The minimum temperature on Wednesday was 27 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average.

While it was a sunny day with high temperature throughout the afternoon, towards the evening, an approaching western disturbance brought rain showers, bringing the temperature drop.

Mahesh Palawat, director of private weather analyst Skymet, said the respite from the the heat will continue for a few more days with temperature again rising from Sunday onwards.

Tuesday's maximum temperature settled at 37.6 degrees Celsius, one notch below the season's average while the minimum temperature was recorded at 26.5 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average.
