Seoul, April 30 (IANS) Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder is being sued by a South Korean man for allegedly having an affair with his ex-wife, the media reported on Monday.
According to a BBC report, Schroeder is set to marry the woman, South Korean translator Kim So-yeon, who will be his fifth wife. He announced his engagement to the woman in January.
The man claimed that his former wife and Schroeder had a liaison while she was still married to him, Yonhap news agency reported.
The ex-husband is seeking $94,000 for "unbearable mental distress", the report said.
In a filing to the Seoul Family Court, Kim's unnamed former husband reportedly said: "Our marriage eventually fell apart and the accused should be held responsible for his action."
A translator and Seoul's representative on North Rhine-Westphalia's economic development agency, Kim is 26 years younger than her future husband. She acted as a translator for Schroeder at a management meeting two years earlier.
Schroeder, the Social Democratic chancellor of Germany from 1998 to 2005, currently serves as chairman of Russian oil company Rosneft and the Nord Stream pipeline.
He is well known for his colourful private life and has earned the nicknames "Audi Man" and "The Lord of the Rings" for his numerous marriages.
