Guayaquil (Ecuador), April 25 (IANS) Coach Guillermo Sanguinetti, who was let go by Delfin's management after failing to turn the team around, has been hired by another Ecuadorian league football team, Club Deportivo Cuenca.
"We're making the hiring of Guillermo Sanguinetti as Deportivo Cuenca's head coach official. Sanguinetti will be joined by Edgardo Adinolfi as assistant coach and Fernando Amoroso as physical trainer," Deportivo Cuenca said in a statement, reports Efe.
Deportivo Cuenca had fired Argentine coach Anibal Biggeri after the team failed to become a winner.
Under the leadership of the 52-year-old Sanguinetti, a veteran coach from Uruguay, Delfin played for the Serie A title for the first time last year, losing to Emelec in the final.
Delfin Sporting Club, which was founded in 1989, won its first Copa Libertadores match under Sanguinetti, beating Chile's Colo Colo 2-0.
In the Ecuadorian tournament, however, the team was 2-5-1, with seven points, and in 9th place when Sanguinetti was fired.
Sanguinetti will take over the helm at Cuenca on April 30.
Club Deportivo Cuenca has a record of 1-6-3 and sits in next-to-last place in the standings.
