Buenos Aires, April 19 (IANS) Brazilian football club Corinthians defeated the Argentina's Independiente 1-0, cementing their lead at the top of Group G in the Copa Libertadores here.
Corinthians are currently leading Group G with seven points, followed by Colombia's Millonarios in second place with four points, and Independiente and Deportivo Lara with three points each, reports EFE news agency.
The only goal of on Wednesday's game was made by Jadson with a header with only 10 minutes left.
In the 12th minute, Corinthians' Maycon was close to scoring after a counterattack, but failed to do so.
Shortly after, Independiente's Silvio Romero had a shot to get 1-0 with his left foot, but he also missed it.
In the second half, Independiente's strength diminished, while the Corinthians went ahead in the field.
Jadson's header in the 80th minute managed to discourage the local team and intensified the last 10 minutes of the game in which the latter tried hard to equal the score.
Four minutes before the game ended, the referee annulled a legitimate goal of the Independiente due to a nonexistent offside.
