"I have plenty of memories of last year. I'm pleased about the easy win today, because a first match is always a special moment," he added.

Ramos-Vinolas is the second Spaniard to advance to the round of 32, after Roberto Bautista won 6-4, 6-3 over Peter Gojowczyk of Germany earlier on Monday.

In the upcoming round, Ramos-Vinolas is due to take on the winner of the match between the US's Tennys Sandgren and Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany.
