SC asks French national accused in child sexual assault to surrender

SC asks French national accused in child sexual assault to surrenderNew Delhi, April 14 (IANS) The Supreme Court on Friday rejected the plea of a French national, a founding trustee of an international school in Mumbai, to remain out on bail in a case of alleged sexual assault on a three-year-old girl.

A bench of Justice A.K. Sikri and Justice Ashok Bhushan asked Patrick Brilliant to surrender in three days and barred him from entering the school premises.

The bench also directed the trial court to decide the matter as per material available on record.

Brilliant had approached the apex court challenging the April 2 order of the Bombay High Court which had cancelled the bail granted to him by the trial court on November 24, 2017.

The high court had asked Brilliant to surrender forthwith before the authority concerned and asked the trial court to complete the proceedings in four months.

The mother of the child, who had registered the FIR last May against the trustee and a teacher, had moved the high court for cancellation of his bail.

On May 18, 2017, an FIR was lodged against Brilliant for sexually assaulting the child after which he was arrested on November 7.
