DCW Chief to listen to women’s grievances in ‘Rape Roko Mahila Adalats’

New Delhi, March 29 (IANS) In a new step to solve issues related to women's safety, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has decided to organise 'Rape Roko Mahila Adalats' which will provide an opportunity to women to address their concerns directly to DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal.

For the initiative, DCW has joined hands with the Delhi Government, the Delhi Police and the Municipal Corporation.

According to the DCW, the meetings will be headed by Maliwal and will be attended by women and officials from the police and Delhi Government. The Adalat is an attempt of the Commission to elicit accountability of the system towards women and girls.

"The sessions will be conducted frequently across all the places in Delhi. During the Adalats, women and girls will be encouraged to raise issues concerning their safety and the officers present shall address them on the spot," said a statement by DCW.

"Through the Rape Roko movement, we strongly demand stringent action against child rapists in six months via strong law, increased police resources and accountability and fast-track courts. We are now starting the Rape Roko Mahila Adalats to fix problems on the ground which promote sexual harassment," Maliwal said.
