New Delhi, March 9 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met and interacted with the recipients of the Nari Shakti Puraskar awarded in recognition of their selfless service to others in society.
The Prime Minister said the awardees have devoted their lives on a mission to serve others. He said their contribution extends far beyond those who benefited from their efforts and serves as an inspiration for society.
During the interaction, Modi spoke of "Seva Parmo Dharma" (it is our highest duty to serve others) as being an integral part of our culture.
He mentioned that the nation is celebrating the 150th anniversary of Sister Nivedita, who was an embodiment of selfless service.
Modi said efforts to serve society have been a part of the Indian ethos and are reflected in initiatives such as dharamshalas, gaushalas and education initiatives across the country.
Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi was also present on the occasion.
