Mercury drops, respite for next few days

New Delhi, March 4 (IANS) With spells of shower in Delhi and the neighbouring region, mercury fell by two degrees bringing respite to the national capital. The maximum temperature on Sunday was recorded at 31.7 degrees Celsius, five notches above the season's average.

The minimum temperature was 17.3 degrees Celsius, four notches above the seasons's average.

The maximum temperature on Saturday was 33.1 degrees, while the minimum was 16.6 degrees.

According to weather analysts, both the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to fall further by at least two degrees over the next two days due to a western disturbance, which could also result in snowfall in the Himalayas.

On Sunday, a few areas of Delhi saw very light showers bringing down the temperature towards the evening. Some areas of adjoining Haryana experienced hailstorms.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature on Monday is likely to hover around 29 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 15 degrees.

"Temperature will fall over the next two days only, and from Wednesday onwards it will start rising again," Mahesh Palawat, director of private weather forecasting agency Skymet told IANS.

The humidity on Sunday oscillated between 34 and 72 per cent.
