Success of reforms needs sustainable supply chain: Manoj Sinha

New Delhi, Feb 22 (IANS) The success of economic reforms requires development of sustainable, transparent, efficient and responsive supply chain, Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha said on Thursday.

"Reform, perform and transform mantra given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is at the core of reforms being undertaken in railway sector and success of reforms requires development of sustainable, transparent, efficient and responsive supply chain," he said while addressing the Suppliers' Samvad (dialouge) Journey towards Digitisation, Transparency and Ease of Doing Business seminar here.

Sinha also said that technology is to be used to enable upstream and downstream value-addition for all stake-holders and ultimately for the benefit of consumers.

"Suppliers' dialogue would boost the railways efforts to reduce entry barriers, promote competition and fairness, develop (medium and small scale industries) MSEs and reduce inefficiencies and deliver the outcome expected of the government's policy initiatives," he said.

In a bid to help improve transparency and align industry with Digital India initiative, the minister said that railways would soon launch digitisation of suppliers' bills.

He also said that on one hand railways would introduce transparency and efficiency into the railway-vendor relationship and, on the other, it would enhance ease of doing business for the vendor.

He also emphasised that digitization of supply chain was a step in the right direction.

"Integrating all stakeholders and simplification of business processes would help in enhancing ease of doing business and transparency which would benefit both Railways and industry," Sinha said.

The minister then said that digitization of supply chain would also help in opening opportunities for educated youth, startups and women entrepreneurs by reducing transaction costs and entry barriers.
