Bengal hopes to award floating solar project in March

Kolkata, Feb 22 (IANS) The West Bengal government expects to award the country's single largest grid connected floating solar power project in Murshidabad district by March and has also lined up two more such projects, an official said on Thursday.

"Tender had been floated for the project and we hope to award the contract in March. Once it is successfully executed at Sagardighi Thermal Power Project, we have lined up at least two more such large projects," state Power Commissioner A.N. Biswas said on the sidelines of an event of Forum of Regulators of Eastern and North Eastern states.

The two other proposed projects are 5 MW floating solar project at the site of Santaldih and 10 MW at Barkeswar thermal power plants.

"But, we will wait till the first one gets executed," he said, adding that the first project being executed by West Bengal Power Development Corporation Ltd.

As of December, Kerala has the largest floating PV solar project of 500 Kwh size.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Electricity Regulatory Commission Chairman R.N. Sen said it would give full support by rolling out the regulations soon after the state government comes out with rooftop solar policy.
