Chandigarh, Feb 17 (IANS) Four men were electrocuted while consuming liquor at a party held to celebrate the birthday of daughter of one of them in Punjab's industrial city Ludhiana, police said on Saturday.
The dead included Ranjit Singh, 27, father of the girl whose birthday was being celebrated on Friday night at their residence in Ishwar Colony in Dhandari locality in Ludhiana, around 110 km from here.
Police said Ranjit and his three friends went to the top floor for drinks where they had a heated argument. Ranjit touched a high-tension wire during a scuffle between the group, police said.
As he screamed for help, Sarvjit Singh, Amarjit Singh and Budhraj tried to rescue him but were also electrocuted. The three were aged between 23 and 29.
The victims were said to hail from Bihar and worked as labourers in Ludhiana.
All four died on the spot, Assistant Commissioner of Police Dharampal told the media.
