Dry spell continues in J&K

Srinagar, Feb 8 (IANS) Minimum temperatures again dipped in the Kashmir Valley on Thursday due to a clear night sky as the Met forecast no change in weather conditions till Friday.

"It is expected to remain dry in Jammu and Kashmir over the next 24 hours," a MET official said.

There is likelihood of rain and snow, though, beginning February 11 night, he added.

Kashmir is reeling under one of its worst winter dry spells.

There is widespread fear that unless it snows in sufficient measure during the remaining part of the season, the state could face drought in the summer months.

Minimum temperature was minus 1.8 in Srinagar, while it was minus 2.2 and minus 7.1 in Pahalgam and Gulmarg, respectively.

Kargil at minus 15 was the coldest town in the state, while Leh recorded minus 5.8 degrees Celsius.

In the Jammu region, the minimum was 5.6 in Jammu city, 6.1 in Katra, 2.5 in Batote, minus 0.2 in Bannihal, 0.8 in Bhaderwah and 1.7 in Udhampur.
