Woman, daughter found murdered, burnt in Amritsar

Chandigarh, Feb 6 (IANS) A middle-aged woman and her daughter were found murdered and burnt in a residential locality in Amritsar, around 250 km from here, following which police launched an investigation.

Gagan Verma, aged around 45, and her daughter, aged 22, were found murdered in separate rooms in Darshan Avenue near the Golden Gate in Amritsar.

Their bodies had been set afire by the assailants, police said.

The murders came to light when neighbours found smoke emanating from the house.

Police officials did not rule out rape of the young woman as her hands were found tied and the body was in semi-naked condition.

Gagan, a divorcee, was living with her daughter while her son Gaurav had gone abroad for studies about a month ago.
