Centre suppressing voice of parliamentarians: AAP MP

Centre suppressing voice of parliamentarians: AAP MPNew Delhi, Feb 6 (IANS) Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh on Tuesday said that the BJP-led central government was trying to suppress the parliamentarians and hampering them from presenting the issues of the public.

"Every time anyone in the opposition questions the Centre's policies or an issue related to the public, the government suppresses their voice," Singh told media here.

"If we can't be the voice of the citizens in the parliament, there is not even a single organisation left where the questions raised by the people can be asked...where democracy is protected," he said.

His remarks came hours after a united Opposition boycotted the Rajya Sabha alleging that the House's Chairman, Venkaiah Naidu, was not allowing them to speak and raise governance issues.

As soon as the House met at 2 p.m., Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad raised the issue of the House being adjourned without conducting the Zero Hour and the Question Hour for the past few days.

Azad was joined by other opposition leaders, including Samajwadi Party's Naresh Agarwal, Trinamool Congress' Derek O'Brien and Communist Party of India-Marxist's Tapan Sen in the protest.

"The dictatorial central government is suppressing the opposition outside as well as in the parliament," said Singh.
