Italy to host Africa-Europe migration conference

Rome, Feb 1 (IANS/AKI) Various European and African nations, as well as the European Union's Foreign Policy chief Federica Mogherini will attend a meeting on migration here next week, Italy said on Thursday.

'A Shared Responsibility for a Common Goal: Solidarity and Security' will take place at the Italian Foreign Ministry on February 6. Brainchild of Italy's Foreign Affairs minister Angelino Alfano, the conference which will be attended representatives from Algeria, Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia, France, Libya, Malta, Niger, Spain, Sudan, The Netherlands and Tunisia.

"It is based on an enhanced partnership between European countries and African transit countries to achieve integrated management of the migration phenomenon, capable of uniting solidarity and security," Alfano said

Mogherini, United Nations migration agency International Organisation for Migration's Director General William Lacy Swing, and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe's Secretary General Thomas Greminger are among speakers at the event.

Alfano will make the concluding remarks at the meeting, which will be followed by a press conference, the Foreign Ministry said.
