"There has always been talk. Everybody keeps on saying it's high time. I think action has to be followed now," Bhutia told IANS on the sidelines of Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) Spring-Summer 2018.
Bhutia walked the ramp for the opening show which saw creations by some talented designers from the northeast.
He said: "It's a good start from Lakme. There is a huge fashion market in northeast and hopefully good things will start coming in. Northeast is a very fashionable region and hopefully it will be tapped in a better way."
Designers from six of the eight northeast states -- Manipur, Assam, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh -- showcased their collection at the show, curated by IMG Reliance.
The designers who showcased were Daniel Syiem, Kuzu, Jenjum Gadi x Exotic Echo Society, Khumantem, Tilla by Aratrik and Sonam Dubal.
