Evening rain in parts of UP brings back winter chill

Lucknow, Jan 23 (IANS) Light to moderate rain in many parts of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday evening pulled down the mercury once again.

While there were drizzles in some areas in the western parts of the state including Meerut, Bareilly and Ghaziabad, moderate rain was recorded in Hardoi, Sitapur and Lucknow.

Rain accompanied by gusty winds led to power disruptions and uprooting of trees at some places in the state capital, with the consequent traffic snarls.

The weatherman has predicted similar conditions for Wednesday as well.

Incidentally, the rains came on a day when the school timing was changed to 9 a.m from the present 9.30 a.m, which was done due to inclement weather.

More rain is likely in the eastern and central parts of the state, according to the Regional Met Office.

The rain has, however, brought smiles to the faces of farmers who were praying for the skies to open up as it is beneficial for the wheat crop.

The weather for the last four days had cleared up in the state as a bright sun lit up the day and the mercury was steadily climbing. With the Tuesday rains, however, it appears that it might be a little premature to pack the woollens in the cupboard.
