ISL: Jamshedpur beat Delhi with superb comeback

ISL: Jamshedpur beat Delhi with superb comebackJamshedpur, Jan 21 (IANS) Jamshedpur FC staged a stunning comeback to edge out Delhi Dynamos FC 3-2 in an exciting Indian Super League (ISL) clash here on Sunday.

Kalu Uche (20th, 22nd minutes) struck twice in quick succession to give Delhi the upper hand.

But the hosts scored through Tiri (29th), Raju Yumnam (54th) and Matheus Trindade (86th) to clinch a well deserved victory.

Jamshedpur thus rose a couple of rungs to fifth on the league table with 16 points from 11 matches.

Delhi remain rooted to the bottom of the 10-team ladder with just seven points from 11 matches.

Delhi started on the front foot and Kalu gave the visitors the lead with a powerful header. Nandhakumar Sekar received the ball on the left wing and picked up the striker with a pin point cross into the Jamshedpur penalty box.

Jamshedpur goalkeeper Subrata Paul's desperate dive couldn't prevent the ball from bulging the net.

Two minutes later, Delhi were two goals up in an almost identical move. Sekar again turned provider and Uche was again on hand to head the ball to the goal.

Lillianzula Chhangte's ball had put Sekar free on the left flank and the midfielder put the ball in for Uche, who was left unmarked inside the penalty box by the Jamshedpur defence.

Jamshedpur however, were not cowed down. The hosts reacted well and pulled one back at the half an hour mark.

Jamshedpur captain Tiri headed in a corner from Jerry Mawihmingthanga after out jumping Pritam Kotal who was tasked to mark him.

Chhangte should have extended Delhi's lead in the 35th minute but the forward blasted his shot over the bar.

In the second half, Raju's smashing side footed shot levelled the scores for the hosts. Jerry's cross from the left was only partially cleared away by the Delhi defence and the full back punished them for that mistake.

Raju's curling shot from outside the box was too hot for Delhi goalkeeper Arnab Das Sharma.

Both teams pressed for the winner but it were Jamshedpur who had the last laugh.

Wellington Priori found Trindade Goncalves inside the box with a good pass from outside of his foot and Trindade turned and shot it between the legs of Pratik Chowdhary and the goalkeeper.
