Kolkata, Jan 20 (IANS) Presidency University students on Friday held a sit-in protest against alleged delay in completion of renovation of heritage Eden Hindu Hostel when the Chancellor, Governor K.N. Tripathi, was present on the campus for the inaugural of the Presidency Museum.
During the protest demonstration, Vice Chancellor Anuradha Lohia and Presidency Mentor Group Chair Sugata Bose were also present.
The Governor was to attend the inauguration of the Presidency Museum set up to mark the completion of the 200th year of the institution.
Students also accused the management of trying to close the hostel.
"In the name of renovation, we will not allow the Presidency management to destroy the heritage of the 200-year-old institution. We want reopening of the heritage hostel," a student said.
Students also alleged they had to travel a lot from the existing hostel in New Town to come to the university and it was also expensive for them.
The Eden Hindu Hostel had been closed in July 2015.
