Hyderabad, 19th January 2018: Cancer Crusaders of CURE Foundation are organizing a world-class golf tournament, the 5th Biennial ‘Cancer Crusaders Invitation Cup’, as a fundraiser and awareness initiative, on February 3rd & 4th, 2018, at Hyderabad Golf Club. This was announced at Press conference by Tollywood cine actress Ms. Kajal Agarwal; Dr. P. Vijay Anand Reddy, Founder, CURE Foundation & Director, Apollo Cancer Hospital, Hyderabad; Capt. J. Vikramdev Rao, President, Hyderabad Golf Association (HGA); Mr. BVK Raju, HGA; Mr. Sunil Chawda, Director, Cybercity Builders & Developers Pvt Ltd.; Sri SLN Prabhakar Reddy, Managing Director, ONE WEST; Mr. T.V. Madhupal, Executive Assistant Manager, HICC & Novotel and Mr. Suresh Reddy, M.D., Pride Honda; today at Hyderabad Golf Club, Golconda.
Speaking on the occasion Kajal Agarwal said, being associated with a noble cause like this delights me. It is all the more poignant for me because I lost my grandfather to cancer and I know how traumatic it is for the patient and the family. I appreciate Cure foundation for the amazing work and the yeoman service it is rendering in the crusade against the dreaded disease and I am willing to do whatever little I can do towards this. She said prevention is better than cure. Awareness helps in detecting the disease early and aids in nipping it in the bud stage. CURE has been creating awareness about cancer and has been treating poor kids afflicted of cancer with the funds collected, she said.
Kajal Agarwal said, there are two causes which are dear to me, healthcare and education and one can count me for any cause associated with these. I started off my new year by joining Marathon for the beginners and this is another good thing I am doing at the very beginning of the year. Running a marathon is definitely tougher than acting, as it involves lot of physical effort.
According to Dr. Vijay Anand Reddy, through this event, we intend to raise money and spread cancer awareness in the society through extensive participation from ace golfers, outstanding sportspersons, celebrity figures and opinion leaders. This will be a remarkable day as the leaders of the community set an impactful example through participation and declare support to this virtuous cause. Our objective is to create a consistent, annual, respectable charity golf tournament that will be well known in the golfer community, an event that golfers look forward to every year. It will be a fun and fulfilling day of social service. Dr Vijay Anand Reddy said, sports is the best exercise and it gives good relaxation and golf is the best sports ever to keep fit. Cure foundation has treated till date 942 patients with the sophisticated technology at Apollo Cancer Hospital. A decade ago we used to see 70% of patients in advanced stages. Off late because of regular Cancer Awareness programs like this, we are able to see 70% of the cancer cases in early stages.
Capt. J. Vikramdev Rao said, HGA is associated with several charities and been working with Cure foundation for past several years. Happy to be associated with this cause of Cancer Care, one of the most impelling causes today. Cure has been doing some admirable work by providing solace and succor to patients in distress. We look forward to some wonderful display of Golf here during the tournament. The format of the tournament is Stableford with 100% Handicap, Shot gun ‘T’ off. Over 250 Golfers will be taking part, the tournament will be spread over three sessions.
Celebrity Golf Playoff
The highlight of the tournament will be participation of Celebrities from various walks of life in the play putting competition as part of ‘Celebrity Golf Play off’ on Sunday 4th February evening under flood lights. The Celebrities from different walks of life would be participating on 4th evening at 7 PM, Novotel, HICC. The Celebrities include Smt. K. Kavitha, Member of Parliament; Smt Amrapali Kata, IAS; Smt Shikha Goel, IPS, DIG, CISF; Ms Sania Mirza, Ace Tennis Player; Ms Shalini Vadnikatti, Model & Cine Actress; Ms Tejaswi Madivada, Cine Actress; Dr. P. Shashikala Reddy, Doctor; Ms Saptala Reddy, M.D., Cybercity Builders & Developers; Ms Ritika Mohan Singh, Actress; Ms Catherine Tresa, Actress; Ms Hebah Patel, Actress; Ms Daksha, Actress and several others. The format for the Celebrity Putting Contest will involve each celebrity swinging the Golf driver and hit the Golf ball.
The first four editions of the Cancer Crusaders Invitation Cup organized in 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016, were a runaway success. Former Indian cricket skipper Kapil Dev Nikhanj; Actor Nagarjuna; Star Tennis player Sania Mirza; Former All England Champion Pullela Gopichand; Cine Actresses Richa Gangopadhyay, Priyamani, Samantha; Tamannaah Bhatia, Ms. D.K. Aruna, Ms. Katherine Dhanani, Smt. Tejdeep Kaur Menon; Ms. Shobana Kamineni, Mrs. Shilpa Reddy brought tremendous recognition to the tournament by participating along with the golf enthusiasts. This year too, around 250 Golfers are expected to participate in the tournament.
