"Slight rise in minimum temperature will however have no affect on the cold wave, which will continue," an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official told IANS.
IMD said that the visibility is also likely to improve with fog getting shallower across the area, including Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, the north-western region of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh and Chandigarh; the central region of Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and parts of Maharashtra, the eastern region that includes Bihar and parts of West Bengal and the entire north-eastern region.
On Thursday, the national capital recorded minimum temperature of 8 degrees Celsius against 6.8 degrees on Wednesday. The maximum temperature was 22.7 degrees, a notch above the season's average.
"It is because of the western disturbance... the cloudy weather helps with slight improvement in the minimum temperature as the moisture in upper atmosphere increases," Mahesh Palawat, director private weather forecasting agency Skymet, told IANS.
He added that while the minimum temperature have increased in Punjab, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, no immediate drop will be seen over next few days.
"The temperature may fall by 1 degree from January 14 onwards," Palawat added.
In Jammu and Kashmir, improvements in the minimum temperature was also recorded on Thursday.
"The minimum temperature was minus 3.0 in Srinagar as against Wednesday's minus 6.3, thereby bringing relief to the residents," the Met said.
Minimum temperature was 6.1 in Jammu city on Thursday as against 4.4.
The improvement in minimum temperatures in the state occurred because of a partial nightlong cloud cover, a Met Department official said.
It was minus 3.3 in Pahalgam, and minus 8.5 degrees Celsius in Gulmarg, which was the lowest temperature in the valley.
In the Jammu region, Mata Vaishno Devi base town camp of Katra recorded 8.4, Batote 5.2, Banihal 1.6, Bhaderwah 2.8 and Udhampur 3.3.
