Weather improves in J&K

Jammu/Srinagar, Jan 11 (IANS) Minimum temperatures throughout Jammu and Kashmir improved on Thursday due to a nightlong cloud cover as people got some respite from the week-long intense cold wave sweeping the state.

"The minimum temperature was minus 3.0 in Srinagar as against Wednesday's minus 6.3, thereby bringing relief to the residents," the Met said.

Minimum temperature was 6.1 in Jammu city on Thursday as against 4.4.

The improvement in minimum temperatures in the state occurred because of a partial nightlong cloud cover, a Met Department official said.

It was minus 3.3 in Pahalgam, and minus 8.5 degrees Celsius in Gulmarg, which was the lowest temperature in the valley.

Leh town recorded minus 14.6 and Kargil minus 20.6 degrees Celsius, showing slight improvements.
