Central paramilitaries get Rs 226 cr for gadgets, equipmentNew Delhi, Jan 10 (IANS) The Union Home Ministry has sanctioned Rs 226 crore to paramilitary forces for procuring latest equipment and gadgets to strengthen them in view of their responsibility in securing borders as well as internal security, an official said on Wednesday.

The distribution of the sanctioned fund will be done in phased manner to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the Border Security Force, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the Sashashtra Seema Bal, said the official privy to the Home Ministry decision.

According to the official, the forces will utilise the fund as per their operational requirements.

 

The CRPF and the CISF ensure internal security with their deployment in different sectors while the BSF, the ITBP and the SSB are mandated to guard borders with Pakistan, China, Nepal and Bangladesh respectively. The CRPF is deployed in anti-militancy operations in Jammu and Kashmir, anti-Maoist operations in central and eastern India, the northeastern states and other internal security duties.

The CISF provides security to 59 airports, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and vital installations, including nuclear plants and several government buildings.

The BSF guards 3,323 km India-Pakistan and 4096 km India- Bangladesh borders, the ITBP 3,488 km India-China border and the SSB protects 1,751 km India-Nepal and 699 km India-Bhutan borders.
