CBI starts probe into Rajasthan's Anandpal staged gunfight deathJaipur, Jan 10 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials on Wednesday launched an investigation into the allegedly staged gunfight death of gangster Anandpal Singh last year.

As part of their investigation, the CBI team on Wednesday visited the residence of Shravan Singh Rajput in Malasar village, where the alleged gunfight took place.

After that, the team left for Sanwarad, the ancestral village of Anandpal.

The Anandpal case was reported on June 24, 2017 in Malasar village in Ratanagarh tehsil of Churu district.

The central investigation agency team includes around a dozen police officials and is being led by Assistant Superintendent of Police V.K. Shukla.

Informed sources said the CBI team would also query the team involved in the gunfight, which includes Churu Superintendent of Police, members of Special Operations Group and Anti-Terrorism Squad, and other local police officials.

Earlier, the CBI registered one case over gangster Anandpal's death and two cases related to rioting and arson, during which a bystander Surendra Singh was killed in police firing.

The Rajput community in two districts of Rajasthan had been on the streets demanding a CBI probe into the case, and bowing to their demands, the state government decided to hand over the case to the premier investigation agency.
