BJP Bengal unit hails HC order on bike rally

BJP Bengal unit hails HC order on bike rallyKolkata, Jan 10 (IANS) Hailing the Calcutta High Court's permission to BJP's youth wing for a statewide bike rally from Friday, the party's West Bengal unit on Wednesday said the state government should learn a lesson from such verdicts and stop creating roadblocks.

"Every time we have to move the court to get permission for a rally. The state government should take lesson from these verdicts and stop creating hurdles. This is not the first time they have done such thing," BJP state unit President Dilip Ghosh said here.

The seven-day rally initially did not get a police nod, as it cited the Gangasagar Mela as the reason for not giving permission due to security issues.

Coming down heavily on the ruling Trinamool Congress, Ghosh said its leader are scared of the BJP's growth in Bengal and has been using the police against it and its various wings.

The High Court on Wednesday allowed the 'Pratirodh Sankalpa Abhiyan' rally by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) to mark Swami Vivekananda's birth anniversary.

The rallyists will travel from Contai in East Midnapore district to Coochbehar in the north.

On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, the annual Ganga Sagar Mela is held from January 12 to 15 at Sagar Island in South 24 Parganas district at the confluence of the Ganga with the Bay of Bengal.

Hundreds of pilgrims from different parts of the country arrive there to take a holy dip.
