Manama, Jan 8 (IANS) Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday met Bahrain's Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Foreign Minister Prince Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa and discussed ways to develop sports and cricket ties between the two countries.
Gandhi visited Bahrain as a part of his outreach to the Indian diaspora.
The Crown Prince congratulated Gandhi on becoming the Congress President, a party statement said on Monday.
Gandhi gifted him books written by India's first Prime Minister and his great-grand father Jawaharlal Nehru while in prison, including the "Discovery of India".
The Congress tweeted that Gandhi got an euphoric reception when he reached Bahrain.
The Congress President himself expressed satisfaction at his meeting with the Crown Prince and the lunch hosted by the Foreign Minister.
"Had a good meeting with Crown Prince of Bahrain, Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. We discussed a variety of issues of interest to India and Bahrain," Gandhi tweeted
"Thank you, Your Excellency, Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Foreign Minister of Kingdom of Bahrain, for being a gracious host at lunch today (Monday)."
Gandhi's outreach is seen as a move to popularise the Congress among the Indian diaspora.
