Comply with winter vacation extension: Haryana to schools

Chandigarh, Jan 8 (IANS) The Haryana Education Department has asked all schools in the state to ensure compliance of its orders on extending winter vacations till January 14 in view of the cold wave prevailing in the state.

The government, government-aided and private schools were scheduled to re-open on Monday after the winter break but the state government on Sunday announced that the winter vacations were being extended.

However, the Haryana Education Department clarified on Monday that the winter vacations are extended only for Classes 1 to 8 up to January 12.

"Teaching for Classes 9 to 12 will commence from January 9 and the time schedule for these classes will be from 10.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. till January 12," a spokesman for the department said here.

The spokesman said that schools will remain closed on January 13 and 14 on account of being second Saturday and Sunday, respectively, and will re-open on January 15.

Cold wave conditions are prevailing in all parts of Haryana in the past one week with minimum temperature touching 0.5 degrees Celsius at some places.
