The project would solve the problem of stubble burning and would also be beneficial in management of waste of the local municipal corporation and horticulture, an official said.
A sum of Rs 1 crore has been spent on this project by the Municipal Corporation of Karnal.
This is a unique project in the country and such project would also be started in other districts of the state, a government spokesperson told IANS.
About 10 lakh tonnes of crop stubble is burnt every year which is a big issue for the environment. With a view to deal with this issue, the state government has started this project which would produce about 50,000 tonnes of CNG and about two lakh tonnes of bio fertiliser.
This project would generate 1,000 kg gas, 2,000 kg bio fertiliser and 3,000 units of electricity every day which would be utilised by the municipal corporation.
