Court refuses bail to singer in sexual harassment case

Hyderabad, Jan 5 (IANS) city court on Friday refused to grant bail to well-known singer Ghazal Srinivas in sexual harassment case.

The magistrate rejected the bail petition filed by Srinivas, who was arrested on January 2 for sexually harassing a woman in the office of Save Temples Organisation here. He was remanded to judicial custody till January 12.

The prosecution opposed Ghazal Srinivas' bail petition on the ground that if released on bail, he could tamper with the evidence or influence the witnesses. The court agreed with the argument and refused to grant bail to the accused.

Ghazal Srinivas, whose real name is Kesiraju Srinivas, was arrested by Hyderabad police on charges of sexually harassing a woman, working as jockey for a web radio 'Alayavani' (voice of temples) run by Save Temples Organisation.

Police filed the case against him on the basis of video evidence provided by the 29-year-old complainant. Parvathi, 32, working as maid in the office, and accused number two in the case, is still at large.

The court on Thursday had dismissed a petition by the police seeking custody of Srinivas, saying the CCTV footage available with police was enough for further investigations in the case.

Following the singer's arrest, Global Hindu Heritage Foundation and Save Temples Organisation suspended him as their brand ambassador.

Srinivas denied the allegations. He said he always treated the woman like his daughter.

The 51-year-old holds the Guinness World Record for singing in most languages (76) at one concert.
