Woman shooter opens fire at mother, brother; held

New Delhi, Dec 22 (IANS) A 47-year old woman shooter has been held after she shot and injured her mother and brother with her licensed revolver in south Delhi's Defence Colony, police said on Friday.

Police said the incident occurred in a house in C-block past midnight at 12.30 a.m. when the accused, Sangeeta Singh came out drunk from her room and opened fire on her 75-year-old mother Geeta and brother Harsaran, in his 40s.

Sangeeta was apprehended from the spot and her licensed revolver recovered. She is under medical examination, police said.

"Hearing the gun shots, a neighbour informed the police. Harsaran sustained bullet injury in his leg while Geeta in her chest and abdomen. They are admitted in AIIMS trauma centre and are reportedly out of danger," Deputy Commissioner of Police Romil Baaniya told IANS.

"During investigation, we found Sangeeta is a shooter and has participated in state level events. Besides she used to run adventure tourism at Sohna Road, Gurugram. She has taken various photos with international and national shooters," he said.

"As per her father's statement, she stopped going for shooting practice and had stopped meeting people since the last one year. She was under depression and was taking medicine for the same. Yesterday night she took sleeping pills and medicine along with alcohol," the officer said.

"Prima facie, it appears she was tense over an ongoing property dispute with her mother and aunt," he said.

"Police will request for cancellation of licence of her weapon," Baaniya said.
