Australian tourist killed in road accident on Yamuna Expressway

Lucknow, Dec 21 (IANS) An Australian tourist was killed and four others injured on the Yamuna Expressway on Thursday when a series of vehicles collided owing to poor visibility due to dense fog, police said.

The accident happened at Dankaur in the Gautam Buddha Nagar district.

Superintendent of Police, Rural, Suniti Singh said that a roadways bus rammed into a truck which in turn hit a bullet bike on which the Australian tourist Mathew along with his friends Ian Bog and Cowalt was going to Agra.

Mathew was rushed to the Kailash hospital in Noida where doctors declared him dead owing to head injuries. Four others traveling in a mini bus were also injured in the pile up.

In a related incident, dozens of cars rammed into each other on the Delhi-Allahabad national highway at Kanpur, resulting in injuries to six persons.

Dense fog in the countryside has hit vehicular and train traffic in a big way in Uttar Pradesh in the last few days.
